he singing in the service of anyone, nor was she standing there
as a maid. On that beach they found each other and shared a gaze,
now free and without masters.
I have always thought
there was a beautiful, subtle tension between the butler and maid
in Jack Vettriano's 'The
Singing Butler', so I wanted to reimagine that
scene. Perhaps some of Vettriano's other work borders on erotic
art but I absolutely love the composition of his paintings, strong
and gridded, whilst broken by the sultry characters.
