UPFEST 2017

I suppose we both want to stay dry, eh?

As part of being Upfest 2017's 'festival artist' we, amongst other things, were given an entire gallery wall to fill as we wished. We're suckers for small square paintings, so most of the pieces were just that! Anyway, this page gathers all the pieces we painted for the gallery! The piece above is titled 'Shelter'.

45 DEGREES

No time to look back.

Had a lot of fun drawing the snow behind the snowboarder and love how those orange goggles pop.

BUDDING ARTIST

Yes, they're non-toxic but that's not going to make it any easier to clean it off.

Not an obvious piece at first but once you see the edge of the piece, all becomes a little clearer.

CHASING BIRDS

So the birds continued to fly onwards, the cats floated up and the sky played host to another dream...

One of our enduring scenes, we enjoy finding new ways of painting this plucky cat.

GRAFFITI

Sure, you could spray your name but...

We think this piece is hilarious but I don't think we sold any from this edition at Upfest. I guess who can blame someone for not wanting collage of dicks on their wall. Still though...

NO DOGS

Dog can't read and dog don't care.

Is it the same dog entering the scene, peeing and leaving or is it a queue of dogs, each taking turns to shun the sign? You decide.

MINISTRY OF SILLY WALKS

I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently...

We probably owe a lot of our sense of humour to Monty Python and this was originally a street piece from our Wildcard Wednesday project!

OUR EARTHLY PLEASURES (BONE)

If this isn't happiness, I don't know what is.

Cutting all these bones isn't the most fun but the result is killer!

OUR EARTHLY PLEASURES (FISH)

This'll do.

Cutting all these fish isn't any better either!

PING PONG

And then the awkward chase for the ball.

Can't resist a bit of ping pong if we see a table and it's not too windy!

STRIKE

No bumper rails here.

This piece is based on a very, very early street piece we painted and, similarly to the street piece, you can space out the bowler and pins as far as you like!

TECH SUPPORT

The troubleshooting sledgehammer.

As the resident computer experts of our respective families, we know this feeling all too well. You've got to wonder how some people are so prone to attracting problems when it comes to tech.

THE GLAMOROUS LIFE OF A STREET ARTIST

There's a lot of this.

(we're doing it right now, laying this webpage out)

THESE GO TO ELEVEN

Eleven. Exactly. One louder.

Much like the '45 Degrees' piece, it was fun to illustrate the energy and explosive sound of rock with this piece.

UPFEST PRINT

It's all going off!

And, lastly, we produced a small series of screen prints for the festival using the logo we made for 2017. Normally you print a single colour at a time in screen printing but if you place two different colours on the screen, they begin to blend. These prints are the result of that process, known as split fountain!
