A photo of the artist Pahnl that looks candid, which actually took a lot of attempts to look so candid

I'M PAHNL, I’M AN ARTIST AND I DROP SMALL PEOPLE, DOGS AND CATS INTO THE STREET.

I’m based in Birmingham (England), I've been doing this since 2006 and I like seeing how long my little characters survive in the world but nothing and no one lasts forever. It's just a ride.

However, there's something satisfying about leaving a tiny person somewhere and coming back a few weeks, months or even years later to find they’re still there. It's comforting, like:

"How are you doing down there?"

"You look a bit more rough from when I last saw you but you're still going, eh!"

"Hope to see you later."

And I live mindfully, which means appreciating simple things. Small things. A nice walk or a good coffee. You know, those stupid cliches that actually turn out to be true the older you get. I think those who notice these little characters in the street are the ones who appreciate the small things too.

I also bring my small world to life in the studio with spray paint, screen printing and too many niche tools that I have tendency of only using once. So whilst street art is about recognizing your environment, studio work provides me the opportunity to shape the space my characters find themselves in and seeing how they react.
