It's used to make sure one person understands another when talking about colour. That's because knowing what a colour looks like and how to make it is a difficult task. It's no good just saying "I want it to be light pink" when the human eye can distinguish one colour from ten million other colours.
But misunderstandings happen, disagreements. What one person calls 'aqua green' is 'patina blue' to another. And every computer monitor, phone or TV displays colour differently. Even the same two monitor models can render colours differently.
So colour guides are made. Each booklet is printed with the exact same ink and the exact formula for the colour listed underneath it. No more confusion. You can both look at the same page of the formula guide you both have and understand each other immediately.
Of course there's no formula for love and there's a million ways to find it but when you find someone on the same page as you...
