This isn't for you, this is for me.

I think of that final line from the video (watch below) when I find myself feeling too self conscious now.

However in the course of making this piece, it has been tricky to express exactly what I'm getting at. I like to think I'm an eloquent person but ultimately, like good advice, you only truly understand something once you've experienced it for yourself.

I don't know if you wrestle with this problem, if it makes even a fleeting bit of sense to you. It feels like everyone else does a better job of 'being' themselves. Their decisions seem so resolute, so secure. They are very, very good at being they.

If you are that person, well, I wish I had learnt sooner what you have known for longer. But if you've ever felt the weight of other people's expectations and opinions so strongly that you've forgotten your own perspective, I know you'll understand.

And so this painting isn't back to front because, I'm slowly learning, it doesn't matter how things look from the outside.

MISCELLANEOUS: Signed and numbered on the bottom of the frame, on the reverse there’s a hole in the top frame edge to hang the piece from a nail or from a screw with a head diameter of 4mm or less
